It's been a long journey
This effort to help Edenton strays, both dogs and cats, started over 20 years ago. Our best information is that it began as a high school project and developed into and an ongoing community effort. More than 110 cats have visited our feeders over the years. Twenty three have been relocated to new homes. The rest have been well fed, neutered or spayed as pest we could afford, and given medical care if needed.
Some have stayed their entire lives. Others vanished as quickly as they arrived. Quite a few have been found dead at the site and are buried on a nearby small farm.
Those of us attending to these travelers have worked around the weather, illnesses and more. The three of us who are now sharing the "cat" duty have reached the sad conclusion that we need to move on and, for the sake of the cats, and kits, have undertaken the task of shutting the effort down.
